Top 10 skills for emerging ID graduates

In a survey conducted by the Australian Industrial Design Advisory Committee in September 1998 on the Department of Industrial Design at Canberra University, graduates of industrial design should have ten skills:

1, should have excellent sketches and the ability to paint with bare hands. As a designer, writing down should be quick and smooth, not slow sluggish. There is no requirement for fine drawing here, but it is necessary to quickly draw outlines and render them. The key is to be quick and informal.
2, there is a good technology for making models. You can use foam, plaster, resin, MDF board, etc., and understand the techniques of using SLA, SLS, LOM, silicone and other rapid models.
3, must master a vector drawing software (such as FREEHAND, ILLUSTRATOR) and a pixel mapping software (such as PHOTOSHOP, PHOTOSTYLER).
4. At least one kind of three-dimensional modeling software can be used, such as advanced ones such as PRO/E, ALIAS, CATIA, I-DEAS or lower layers such as SOLIDWORKS98, FORM-Z, RHINO3D, 3D STUDIO MAX, and the like.
5, two-dimensional drawing can use AUTOCAD, MICROSTATION and VELLUM.
6. Ability to be independent, have excellent expressive abilities and skills in dealing with people (can stand in the customer's perspective and understand concepts), have the ability to write design reports (in the design details to discuss and record the design of the decision-making process ). Work experience in the manufacturing industry is even better.
7, in the form of a very good appreciation of the structure of the positive and negative space has a keen sense of ability.
8. The design drawings that come out range from smooth sketches to detailed descriptions to three-dimensional renderings. At least detailed drawings with fine-grained tolerances and well-crafted model photos. Only a few contour maps are not enough!
9, the product from the design and manufacturing to the market should have a sufficient understanding of the entire process. It would be better if we could understand more in industrial manufacturing technology.
10. The timing of the design process must be very precise. Three-dimensional rendering, model making, drawing of fine patterns, etc. shall be provided for a specific period of time. You know, employers hire professional designers to make money as quickly as possible!
