Characteristics and Development of High Barrier Paper Cup Containers

From December 4, 2000, Japan officially implemented the "Recycling of Packaging Containers Act." As a result, research and development of paper containers began about a year ago to replace the new trend of relying entirely on plastic packaging containers. Here is a description of the structure and characteristics of a new paper container “high-barrier paper cup” that has been successfully researched and developed by Japan’s Yamato Can Corporation and Dankexi Company.
The “high barrier paper cup” structure pattern: the cut portion of the inner layer of the container has been cut without burr, and the cut is smooth. The structural design can ensure that the contents are not in contact with the base paper, and can be based on the material of the packaging. It is required that the inner layer material be a film with a strong barrier property on the paper, such as various materials other than aluminum foil with good oxygen barrier and water vapor barrier properties. At present, according to the different requirements of the user's plan on the characteristics of the contents of the packaged goods, circulation status, shelf life and production costs, such high barrier paper containers are available in three different sizes.
The characteristics of the new paper cup container is good protection of the packaging: the container has a certain rigidity, and it will not be damaged even if it is dropped from a high place; the outer layer of the container is made of a PE composite layer to ensure the merchandise refrigerated circulation or the display window has water resistance; The smooth surface of the cover material and the paper cup can ensure good sealing performance. Both the inner and outer layers of the container are combined with a low-odor-grade PE layer to ensure that the flavor of the contents does not escape. In addition, since the container is light in weight, it can be buried, so that the efficiency of burying and the transportation efficiency are good. Moreover, it is suitable for printing product information on the surface of paper and photoengraving to make packaged goods more in line with the requirements of modern consumers. In addition, paper materials are convenient for recycling and have less impact on the environmental load; they are easily compressed when they are discarded, and their volume is reduced. No harmful gas occurs when burned. Therefore, the processing cost of the container is very low.
Such paper containers with small functional and environmental impacts will have better development prospects through future research and improvement.
