Reasons for recessive gene expression being suppressed

On August 19, researchers from the University of Advanced Science and Technology in Nara, Japan, reported in the British "Nature" magazine that they found that the dominant gene was expressed and the recessive gene expression was suppressed during the genetic process of animals and plants. This discovery will help improve plant varieties.

Many animals and plants will inherit some of the genes in the body to the next generation, but in many cases, the sub-generation only expresses traits based on one gene (dominant traits), while traits based on the other gene (recessive traits) are temporarily Hidden but not expressed; in the second generation, the above dominant and recessive genes are expressed. This genetic law is called "Mendel's Law of Separation".

The group led by Professor Takayama Takayama, a professor at the University of Advanced Science and Technology in Nara, and researcher Yoshiya Taniya conducted research on a kind of Japanese native rape. They found that a certain gene located near the dominant gene guided the synthesis of a low-molecular-weight ribonucleic acid, which led to the recessive gene methylation and its effect was contained. The research team speculates that animals may have similar mechanisms.

Takayama Makoto discovered in 2006 that recessive genes could not function due to chemical reactions. This discovery clarified the specific mechanism by which recessive genes are contained.

Takayama Makoto pointed out that dominant plant traits are usually dominant traits. Based on this discovery, it is possible to use artificial means to improve plant varieties using only dominant traits.
