Preparation and corrosion resistance of super-hydrophobic composite film on Mg-Mn-Ce magnesium alloy surface

Abstract: A composite treatment method combining micro-arc oxidation technology and organic coating technology is used to realize the surface modification of Mg-Mn-Ce magnesium alloy to obtain a super-hydrophobic composite film layer to study the surface characteristics of micro-arc oxidation film and the electrochemical reaction of organic coating Process, wetting characteristics and corrosion resistance of the composite film. The results show that after the micro-arc oxidation treatment of the magnesium alloy, the surface of the micro-arc oxidation film has a micro-nano porous structure, showing super-hydrophilic characteristics, and the static contact angle of distilled water is close to 0 °; The static contact angle of the organic film formed is as high as 173.3 °, showing excellent super-hydrophobic properties.
Magnesium alloy has good corrosion resistance after micro-arc oxidation treatment. After organic coating super-hydrophobic composite treatment, the corrosion resistance is further improved.
In 3.5% NaCl solution, the composite membrane layer has a dynamic potential polarization corrosion current density reduced by 3 orders of magnitude, while the electrochemical impedance is increased by 3
Several orders of magnitude, the corrosion resistance is significantly improved. The combined treatment of micro-arc oxidation and organic coating makes the magnesium alloy surface significantly improve the corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloy while achieving the superhydrophilic-superhydrophobic function conversion.
