Manroland launches new process for cold foil hot stamping

Packaging products using cold foil hot stamping are more beautiful, elegant, noble and attractive. For printing companies, cold foil hot stamping represents additional value-added printing technology. For value-added printing of high-grade cold foil hot stamping, it is mainly used for: packaging, labels, commercial printing jobs, through cold hot stamping, on the printing unit through the metal image on-line overlay printing for product finishing. These images are separated from the carrier foil and transferred to the area printed with viscous ink, which eliminates the cost of expensive hot stamping plates and the hot stamping process, which are additional off-board production steps. Cold foil hot stamping can be processed online, which reduces the steps of the process chain, which means that orders can be delivered faster.

Compared with hot stamping, cold foil hot stamping can replicate and reproduce ultra-fine lines and elements. In packaging and printing, in the practice of using anti-counterfeiting elements together, its value has been confirmed. If cold stamping is not performed, this printing unit can still be used as a normal printing unit, and conversion requires only a few manual steps.

Inks and coatings-Overprinting of metal foil with four-color printing inks will produce an impressive color space. Traditional applications can be performed on coated paper, uncoated paper, paperboard, absorbent printing materials, or structured printing materials. UV ink can be overprinted by traditional printing on coated paper. When overprinting on printed products with high ink coverage, a protective layer can be added.

Blanket-For cold foil finishing, a special blanket is required to replace the traditional blanket. In addition to allowing the metal foil to pass through at the meshing gap without deformation, the blanket also has an important contribution to the transmission of metallized ground, dots and details, thanks to its special surface properties.

Cold Foil Adhesive——The viscous ink for cold foil hot stamping with sheet-fed offset printing is an oil-based ink, its pigment content is reduced, and its viscosity is increased. This high viscosity is essential for the complete and perfect separation of the foil layer from the carrier foil layer. In the production process, the amount of viscous ink can be continuously adjusted to reduce quality fluctuations to a minimum. Ink density can be recorded as a density value and adjusted during the production process.
