Sleep environment is too bright or obese

Under normal circumstances, we all think that obesity is because we eat more and exercise less. But a new study in the UK found that excessive light around during sleep may also be a factor in women's obesity. This may be related to the effect of light on metabolism.

Researchers at the London Cancer Institute in the United States reported in a new issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology that they were investigating the effects of light in the sleeping environment on obesity when investigating the relationship between breast cancer and obesity.

The survey involved 113,000 British women and tracked the investigation for 40 years. In this survey, the intensity of light in the sleeping environment is divided into 4 levels: it can be read, it can see the environment inside the house but it is not suitable for reading, but it can be seen but not visible to the whole house, and the degree of “ reaching the fingers ” .

The researchers found that women who fell asleep in a brighter environment had higher body mass index, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, and waist-to-height ratio than women who slept in a darker environment. Even after considering physical exercise habits, sleep time and other factors, this correlation still exists.

Participated in the study, Professor Cancer Institute in London, said Anthony Swerdlow, cyclical rhythm of the body will produce effects of light, thereby affecting the metabolism. This may help explain new discoveries, but further research is needed to understand the specific mechanisms.
