The APL automatic plate-setting system uses a 4-axis robotic arm manufactured by KUKA Robot Group, and the positioning error is accurate to 0.01mm. Each innovative product has its own background: this robot is a project jointly manufactured by two famous industrial fields based in Augsburg-this is Manroland Printing Machinery Company and KUKA Robot Group. After assisted with the development of KUKA in Augsburg, it was assembled on the automatic mounting system of Manroland. This is a typical example of cross-industry cooperation, and is the result of joint collaboration between two market-leading companies at different discipline levels.
Principle of operation
The following uses a 4-2 printing machine as an example to explain how the APL automatic plate loading device operates. The robot is installed on the paper guide of the ordinary printing machine and starts to operate when the printing job is completed. During printing, the operator has placed all the printing plates required for the next job in the printing plate bin, and 4 printing plates can be placed in each plate bin. The robotic arm takes out the used printing plates, puts them in the box, and empties it later, and the printing press starts printing again. The robotic arm of the automatic plate setting device holds a set of 4 printing plates, or when it is replaced with a local plate for printing, it only needs to hold the printing plate required for the residence, and prepare in advance. Two vacuum nozzles take the printing plate out of the plate compartment, and as the robot arm stretches out gracefully, the printing plate is placed where the plate clamping system takes over. The printing plate automatic positioning mechanism fixes the printing plate. On the printing machine with double-diameter cylinder, install the second set of printing plates in the same way. On the printing machine with double-diameter cylinder, the time for changing the plate will not be more than 2.5 minutes.

Compared with other existing systems on the market, Manroland's APL automatic plate-setting system eliminates some common problems. The position of the printing plate silo is far away from the inking system and web paper belt. Therefore, in a relatively clean environment, it will not be splashed with ink or dirty with paper powder. If you are worried about a failure in the workflow, there is no problem with the PPL (electric plate mounting device) function, and PPL is the basis of this system. Sometimes you encounter inaccurate positioning of the printing plate, or the wrong printing plate is installed? The printing plate scanning function inside the machine can prevent this kind of problem from occurring: the printing plate is identified by the bar code on the curved edge after the printing plate is bent, and the system will only operate at the correct position of the printing plate. In addition to the features described above, the printing unit can now perform all operating or maintenance functions in its normal position.
